National AccessAbility Week

National AccessAbility week celebrates and highlights the important initiatives aimed at creating an Accessible Canada.

AccessAbility Week 2024

This year’s awareness week takes place from May 26 to June 1, 2024 and aims to:

  • celebrate the valuable contributions and leadership of people with disabilities in Canada
  • highlight the work of people, organizations, and communities that are removing barriers
  • reflect on ongoing efforts to become a better, more accessible, more inclusive Canada

Upcoming Events

Tuesday, May 28

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to stop by the Fisher Foyer (Lansdowne Campus) between 10am-2pm to learn about the supports and services available at Camosun, while also connecting with resources in the Victoria community.

Wednesday, May 29

Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion, an Easter Seals initiative, is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for disabled people and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society.

Anyone can take part in Red Shirt Day. Put on your favourite red shirt, take some photos and make a pledge to help improve accessibility and inclusion in your community. Then post your photos and your pledge on social media with the hashtags. #RedShirtDay #RedForAccessAbility

Thursday, May 30

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to stop by the Campus Centre (Interurban Campus) between 10am-2pm to learn about the supports and services available at Camosun, while also connecting with resources in the Victoria community.

Accessible Camosun

Camosun’s Accessibility committee, comprised of representatives from across the college and involves persons with disabilities, shares the common goal of enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities —students, employees, our community partners and guests. The committee led the creation, and supports the implementation, of the Accessibility Action Plan, which sets accessible priorities for the college.

Our college’s vision of inspiring life-changing learning gives guidance to all that we do, creating a learning environment where an individual’s hopes and dreams are realized. We are committed to eliminating barriers faced by persons with disabilities, and to enhance inclusion and independence for all members of the college community.
